On Tuesday, May 28, Tift Merritt will join Philipp Meyer for an exclusive performance at Barnes & Noble Union Square, NYC. The series, Upstairs at the Square, brings together musical artists and authors for a part musical performance, part author event.
The event will be celebrating the release of Tift’s latest album “Traveling Alone” and Philipp Meyer’s highly anticipated book, The Son.
With “Traveling Alone,” Tift Merritt made her Yep Roc debut in a big way. Recorded in 8 days, Tift and her dream cast of musicians, including Marc Ribot (Tom Waits), Eric Heywood (Pretenders, Son Volt), John Convertino (Calexico), longtime collaborator Jay Brown, and producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket) put together an album that was real, raw and live off the floor.
Praised by Publisher’s Weekly as “the stuff of Great American Literature,” Philipp Meyer‘s The Son is one of the most anticipated books of the season. Kevin Powers calls The Son “the story of our founding mythology, of the men and women who tore a country from the wilderness and the price paid in blood by subsequent generations.”
Upstairs at the Square begins at 7:00 PM at Barnes & Noble Union Square, 33 East 17th Street, New York, NY 10003.
