The second single from Aoife O’Donovan’s upcoming album In The Magic Hour is now out in the wild, on Wall Street Journal Speakeasy. It’s called “The King of All Birds,” and it’s accompanied by a lyric video.
The music is immersive and complex, with an odd vocal meter darting through layers of acoustic and electric guitars, strings, woodwinds and brass. “Musically, it’s probably the weirdest song on the album,” she says. “Nate Cleary from the Decemberists plays bass on this song, and he kept using these hilarious terms to describe it, like ‘prog-rock-y.”
