Ever wonder who’s working hard behind your favorite Yep Roc releases? Every month we’ll introduce one Yep Roc employee with a personal Spotify playlist and a quirky caricature from our creative designer, Nathan Golub.
This month, we’re focusing on our Interactive Marketing Coordinator, Angela Lin. She oversees posts on social media, news, and a lot of what connects the listener with all of Yep Roc’s releases.
Angela’s playlist walks you through a day in the life. “My playlist mimics the rhythm of a typical night out for me. It starts with some great dance tunes from RAF and Robyn, chills out in the middle with quieter tracks like Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You”, and ends with Enya. Every great night ends with Enya.”
As Enya takes you on a journey, look below and find out about Angela’s pets, the time she met one of her favorite artists because of Yep Roc, and her hypothetical plans for space travel.
What do you do behind the scenes at Yep Roc?
As the Interactive Marketing Coordinator, I handle a lot of the digital day-to-day for Yep Roc. This means helping out with marketing plans for digital service providers like iTunes, creating social media messaging, and generally making sure the artist has a good online presence.
What are you most excited about that’s on the horizon for Yep Roc?
I’m super excited for our new release Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell. Arthur was such a pioneer for Disco and I’m glad he’s gaining more recognition through new artists like Sufjan Stevens and Robyn.
Do you have any pets?
Yep! I have a grumpy Lionhead rabbit named “Bun-Bun.” He has so much fur that he needs to be brushed daily – if not, he may choke on his own fur and die. He’s the best.
What shaped your music taste?
The internet. My parents mostly listened to Chinese folk (which is great) and as a Chinese kid growing up in the suburbs I often felt left-behind in terms of American music. The internet helped me catch up on all the artists I heard people talking about and find new ones as well. Currently though I would have to say the local music scene in Carrboro has definitely shaped my taste. Nightlight brings in an unbelievable variety of amazing acts every week. I feel so lucky to be able to experience it all.
If you were stuck in traffic for an entire day with one CD in your car, what would it be?
Probably a mix CD of old italo-disco from my friend or Enya.
Who were you most excited to meet because of Yep Roc?
Jody Stephens from Big Star. I met him at the Redeye Christmas Party and he clapped me heartily on the back. I almost choked but it was worth it.
What’s your favorite concert experience of the last year?
Jason Lescalleet, one of my favorite drone musicians, at Hopscotch earlier this month. He played inside a church – it was a religious experience.
First album you ever bought?
N’Sync.
If you had to go to space with a musician, who would it be?
I would go with local Carrboro band Sagan Youth Boys who make celestial electronic compositions.
