Classic mod-rock band the Jam first invaded U.S. shores 35 years ago, when Paul Weller and co. came from Britain to play CBGB. In this latest episode of the Hivecast with Matt Pinfield, Weller reflects on that very first tour as a starry-eyed teenager who had an idea of American through films and D.C. comic books. But he also learned that a cold beer after a show wasn’t really an option. “We did two nights at CBGBs and two shows a night. I don’t know what we were expecting, but we were playing in a bar, which we were used to doing. Some of the Ramones came by, met some of Blondie. But I couldn’t get a drink. I was too young to get served. I was only 19 at the time.”
